Lewisham Music Summer Gala
On Tuesday 20 June Lewisham Music held its Summer Gala at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall and it was a night filled with remarkable talent that celebrated the vibrancy, quality and diversity of music in our borough. Young musicians and singers from Lewisham’s schools and borough ensembles presented a feast of great music with everything from samba and strings groups to rock, wind bands and choirs.
The evening got off to a fantastic start with a free pre-show collection of impeccable performances that revisited Lewisham Live 2017. This was shortly followed by the main event which left the crowd speechless (unless they were encouraged) and inspired by the quality and variety performed throughout.
The evening concluded with a massed choir performance from over 600 singers led by Clare Caddick, Lewisham Music’s Singing Leader. A wall of voices filled the hall with songs from around the globe as well as the world premiere of Kerry Andrew’s ‘Listen To Us’, a new commission for the concert. It truly was a dazzling spectacle. Here’s what some of the audience said…
‘It was an inspirational occasion, celebrating the very best in musicianship and vocal performance. WOW. The range and depth of the pieces selected demonstrated ambition and the confidence in which they were performed faultless’.
‘Such amazing talent, energy and joy on one stage! Well done to everyone – very slick’.
Thank you to everyone involved in making the event a great success!
