Are you aged 18-30 and interested in exploring a career in audio and/or podcasting?

This intimate five-day intensive course will be led by leading recording and mix engineer Joy Stacey and producer, DJ and broadcaster CassKidd. You will develop your technical skills and creative awareness alongside exploring the various roles and career pathways within audio production.

 

Expert training

The course will run at our music venue The Fellowship & Star. You will have access to our recording studio and live band rooms, as well as get hands on experience the tools, software and equipment you will need to be familiar with for a career in sound.

 

Practical experience

You will gain hands-on experience with the mixing desk and delve into audio tools such as EQ and compression and effects, giving you a better understanding of how the sonic elements of a track are balanced. The course will also give you an introduction into podcasting and radio giving students a better understanding of technical set up and creating a podcast/radio production from scratch.

 

Collaborative and career-focused

As part of an active community of young creatives, you will have great opportunities to collaborate, as well as the opportunity to speak with a panel of industry professionals working across audio production.

Sessions will take place in the Novelist Studio in our community music spaces – First Floor, The Fellowship & Star, Randlesdown Road, Bellingham, SE6 3BT.

Meet the trainers

 

 

Joy Stacey

Joy is a recording engineer, mix engineer and educator who has been working in audio since 2015. Her journey began learning under engineers at Goldsmiths Music Studios, and has since worked with renowned producer Nigel Godrich on Arcade Fire’s latest album ‘WE’ and The Smile’s (Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Tom Skinner) debut record. Her latest engineer credits include Shygirl, Dream Nails and the tv series Derry Girls. As an educator she facilitates creative, inclusive workshops in music and sound for a range of organisations including Lewisham Music, Roundhouse, Drake Music and Goldsmiths University. She is passionate about improving access to music and co-runs Omnii, an organisation dedicated to improving gender equality in technical aspects of music.

 

 

 

CassKidd

CassKidd is a producer, DJ and Broadcaster originating from South East London. Producing official remixes for the likes of legendary UK Grime artist Wiley, to Izzy Bizu, Novelist and Afrobeats hitmaker Afro B. Teaming up fresh new talent, CassKidd is working on original production and singles of his own. With a monthly radio show and his own label Channel Alt, Cass truly lives and breathes music. Having DJ’d across the UK (Reading and Leeds Festival, Parklife, BBC Radio) and internationally.
