The Music Lab

The Music Lab is a project for ages 13-18 that explores how you can be included more within classical music instrumental education.

Over 2 days in October half-term we’re going to create an original composition based on a well-known piece of classical music of your choosing! You will be encouraged to develop your own musical ideas and explore, and develop, your musical confidence and decision-making.

Musical activities will include listening skills, ensemble work, musical structures, composition ideas, performance techniques and more…

As part of this project you’ll be our co- researchers, bringing your ideas about what you want from your music education and experimenting with how to do things differently.

The Music Lab is a collaboration between Sound Connections, Lewisham Music, and Dr. Anna Bull from the University of York.

Who are Sound Connections?

Take part in an action-research project…

During The Music Lab, we’ll be exploring different ways of working musically with you and documenting what happens. The things that work will become a toolkit to help other music educators working with young people like you. As such, we need to gain permissions from parents and carers for you to take part.
